Safety Tips

Here you will find a list of tips that will better help to protect your time on the web, on the computer and with tech in general.

Chrome tips:

  1. Run the version designed for your system. If you are running a 32-bit system run the 32-bit version of Chrome. If you have a 64-bit system then run the 64-bit version of Chrome. This will ensure functionality and stability especially with any extensions you might have installed.

  2. Add the Disconnect extension to block supercookies

  3. Add ScriptBlock to block all manner of scripts, such as javascript

  4. Add uBlock [replaces AdBlock Plus] since ABP was caught taking money to allow targeted adds

  5. Add HTTPS Everywhere for added security everywhere you go

Please keep in mind that these are very basic steps to ensuring you're safer online. It does not and will not protect against bad habits or choices.

We also strongly recommend the use of a VPN. A VPN creates an encrypted tunnel of communication for your computer to whatever source you're connecting to, whether it be your work remote access or just browsing the web at home. You can find a great article here on which VPN providers take your privacy seriously and which might make a good choice for you. Our recommendation would be PIA [Private Internet Access].

Better yet, you can pick from a number of free VPN browser extensions to run back to back with a dedicated VPN for a strong layer of protection.
